The Name
Why Uncut Stone?
When God gave Israel instructions for building an altar, He included a strange restriction. The stones were to be whole. No chisel. No iron tool. Nothing shaped by human hands.
In the ancient world, dressed stone was a boast — proof of skill, wealth, and craft. God removed the boast. The altar could be rough. It could not be ours.
That is the whole idea behind this project. We build on truth we did not make and are not permitted to improve. We ask hard questions, and then we obey the answers.
Exodus 20:25
“If you make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of hewn stones, for if you wield your tool on it you profane it.”
Deuteronomy 27:5–6
“You shall wield no iron tool on them; you shall build an altar to the LORD your God of uncut stones.”
Joshua 8:31
“An altar of uncut stones, upon which no man has wielded an iron tool.”
We live in a world carved by opinions.
Algorithms. Politics. Personalities. Culture.
But God called Israel to build His altar from uncut stones.
Truth didn't need improving then.
It doesn't now.
